Who’s Buying these Borrachines Mexican Candies?

And a better question – who actually likes them?

You?

They sure look pretty.

Nice colors. Soft and tender with little sugar crystals, Luscious Jackson-esque, making me think I want to swathe myself in them. Curl up with a good book with them and tongue kiss oh so sweetly.

But no. It’s a lie. Put these in your mouth and they fall apart into little tiny marzipan-like matter.

Aren’t the flavors interesting? No again. And you know what? I’d even be OK with flavors that are uninteresting. Make the red a cherry, go with lime for green and the white can be vanilla. As it is, they are all the same none-flavor. Kinda almond, very sweet, a little milky and altogether loosey goosey. Bleck.

The package says Dulce De Leche, which I assume is sweet milk and these have that as an overtone. But have you ever had Dulce De Leche ice cream? Remember how it’s REALLY good? Like lite caramel vanilla? Yeah, these aren’t those.

I would never buy these and recommend you don’t do the same.

Can someone please tell me if they do like these, and if they do – HOW?

That’d be great. Thanks.

Okay but you notice these are supposed to taste like ALCOHOL right… so why would you make an alcohol flavored candy taste like cherry, lime, or vanilla when it’s supposed to taste like alcohol… and their actually really good

I’m well aware this was posted in 2012 and it’s 2020, but YES I am about to come defend these cause they’re delicious only if made right, I’ll have to agree that green and white ones don’t really taste like anything, but the yellow is good, and red one is the best, I had it all throughout my childhood. I just have to say I don’t know what you were expecting from boxed ones instead of authentic artisanal ones lol, the ones in the picture look nothing like the real ones. Also Dulce De Leche candy/ice cream are made with sweetened condensed milk, that’s what it means.

I loveeeee these!!! These candies are a huge part of my childhood. My siblings and I love them and most Mexican candy. people dislike certain flavors because they’re ignorant to several different world flavors or they’re just not used to them. Native of those countries will be those who eat them more than foreigners.

Lots of people seem to like them but keep in mind cultural differences are key when people buy candy. one of the places i buy candy from just picked these up http://www.casasweets.com because they see that there is a business market for these things.

These are actually really good, the reason you probably don’t like them is because they aren’t sweet. Each candy contains 1.5% alcohol and it is an adult candy that maybe you aren’t grown up enough to enjoy, as for the idiots who claimed that they all taste the same, you have no sense of taste. The green is tequila and the red is whiskey very different flavors.

Agreed. Live in 4 corners area, and these are great. Not for sweet junkies. These are quite delicious, and are popular in my area. I’m white, and love Mexican culture, candy, and cuisine. Viva la Mexico!!

I find them intensely sweet, but I do love them. They are, indeed, all flavored with alcoholic drinks, except coffee and chocolate. Quite honestly, I can’t get enough of the whiskey, and my daughter is particularly fond of the tequila.

Yes!! The flavors are not the same at all. We used to have them as kids all the time. They have just enough alcohol to have an after taste but not to get you any sort of drunk or buzz. Very delicious candy!

I’ve had these before….they’re horrible!!! My husband (he’s guatamalan) got me some as a treat once, and I had to be polite and…..well, I ate as many as I could stand. Blech!

Aha! It’s very clear who likes this dulces. Drunk people! The word “Borrachine” refers to “boozers” those unfortunate folks who also love those brown bags they keep close. So maybe after a few tequilas one would grow to like these candies. Or not, and just enjoy the tequila!

I’ve had these… They have a unique taste, a taste that in my opinion shouldn’t exist. The texture is a cross between an overcooked noodle and some kind of melon… Both of which would taste a lot better

That’s not fair to have a red and green candy taste the same, espesh as the taste is gross. The cover really makes them look like sour gummies.
