I feel like I’ve written this umpteen times before: white chocolate ain’t my thing.
It has no cocoa powder in it. It has cocoa butter, sure, and sugar and fat and milk and likely the same ingredient that binds everything together. But cocoa powder – the brown goodness that comes from the cocoa nibs, is the best part of chocolate. You can argue with me if you like, but my mind is made up.
Still, as a mature human being, I recognize that others do in fact like white chocolate. And if this is you, then I wager you will like the White Chocolate M&M’s.
First off, you get the goodness that are M&M’s – the size and shape, the crunchy outside that won’t melt in your hands yadda yadda yadda. Plus the white chocolate in the middle of the morsel, is – dare I say, better than most white chocolates.
Which is saying a lot since most white chocolate comes from fancy, bespoke, artisanal candy makers and M&M’s are definitely not made from such.
The WC M&M’s are not too sweet, still creamy, not too big and overwhelming, and there’s even a slight lemon flavor. Now… lemon is not listed in the ingredients, so who the hell knows WHAT I’m tasting, but there’s a very mild tartness that makes me like these things.
Wait. Have we found the first white chocolate I would actually buy on my own?
POSSSibly.
I mean, if there were no other M&Ms in the aisle and I had a craving, perhaps. But I ain’t passing up Peanut, Peanut Butter, nor Pretzel or Crispy for the White Chocolate version. Still, I’d consider it. And that’s a coup right there.
