I come to you from the dulcet shores off the coast of Mexico. Vacation time- so obviously it’s time to review some candy right? I swear, I bleed for you people….

Enter Gimbal’s Lavaballs. We were sent these a while back, and they’re long overdue off a discussion.

Lavaballs are more of a process of elimination candy than a general favorite. Don’t like cinnamon? You’re out. Don’t like spicy? You’re out. Chewy stuff sticking to your teeth bother you? Be gone. If you’ve made it this far, then you’re tough as nails in the candy world.

Outside, there’s a thin candy shell. I’m guessing the yellow dots are lava detritus, but I can’t be sure.

Here’s the thing about these: they’re not anything groundbreaking, but they’re solid. I love spicy food, but generally have mixed feelings about spicy candy. These? I dig. But only in small batches, like 2 or 3 in a sitting. The spice is real though, and intense. I never think of myself as a cinnamon lover, but in this application, it’s great.

Even better with these is when they’re old and hard. Then you get an even longer drawn out spice fest, and more intense chewy goodness.

I recommend these, cause even though they’re best in small batches, that makes aging them an even more attractive proposition.

Git some!
