Lychee gummies. You eat them all the time, don’t you? Or should we start with what a Lychee IS? I wish someone would, cause really, I’m not sure. I’ve eaten them fresh before, and I’d have to take a stab that they’re something like a nut. But it’s a soft, sweet, delicious fruity coating over the nut that we eat. Tropical, tasty, prohibitively expensive, and therefore, generally off my radar.
However, being on an island that grows Lychees, I found Kasagui Lychee Gummies!
(SIDEBAR: …it’s a better story to say that I’ve “discovered” these things here in Kauai, but the truth is that they have them at the Cost Plus near my house. Good for me, not as interesting for you.)
What you get is a cool looking bag filled with individually wrapped soft Lychee flavored gummies. The flavor is pretty outstanding, and very authentic tasting. Oddly authentic, actually, in a great way. The knock on these gummies (they come in grape, strawberry, and Kiwi flavors, among others), is the consistency. Definitely not yer hard chew-much softer. Lotsa give. And usually, that’s a bummer for this reviewer, but….these are kinda dope. the flavor is so different, it makes up for the lack of tooth chew.
HOWEVER. If these WERE seriously chewy, I’d be looking online for a palette to be delivered to my house when I get home. As is, they’re still good, and definitely capture the tropical taste of the islands.
(On a side note, I’m kinda tripping out at how few hot women there are on this island of Kauai. What the hell? When your wife is the hottest woman you’ve seen in the last week, you’re partially stoked of course, but you’re also feelin’ kinda robbed. Somebody solve this mystery for me, I don’t get it.)
Bottom Line : Yum. Good. Excellent flavor.
Would I Buy Them Again?: I think so. But…it’ll be a while. They definitely have their place, though.
So many things I need to say here:
1. No discourse on the “individually wrapped” part? Individualy wrapped?! Are the candy makers intentionally hoping I don’t eat more than I could ever want? Just seems prohibitively anti-marketing 101. Not to mention, a little air sounds like it might do these things some good.
2. I want to love real life lychees. Cuz when you get a good one, they are so damned good. But they can also be so phlegmy. if they are on the older side, they are like snot. In consistency. Which is enough to put off the taste too, I think.
3. No hot chicks. In Hawaii. Glad I didn’t go.

These are delicious though I agree that they are just a bit TOO chewy. The flavor, though, is spot frickin ON.
