Again with the Mrs. Guru discoveries!  Now I’m not only looking over back for my kid to take my job, but my wife’s honing in on my action as well.

A few weeks ago Mrs. Guru said she had been to the local dollar store, and that it was loaded up with candy. More than usual. I had the day off and a $20 bill in my pocket, so why not go there and buy 20 things, right?  Friends, I’m here to tell you she was right. There was a treasure trove of mass produced American candies there, many of which I’d never tried.

I saw these candy twists, and the vibrant colors were way too loud for me not to check them out. They’re firmly planted in the Twizzlers camp as far as consistency goes. So if you hate Twizzlers, these most likely won’t be your favorite.

But why the hell would you hate the Twiz?  I know there’s an age old east coast vs. west coast rivalry between the Twiz and Red Vines, but I’m here to tell you that you can have it all folks.  No, there’s nothing better in my opinion at the movie theater than old, tough Red Vines with the ends bitten off to use as straws with your soda.  Red Vines also pair extremely well with popcorn.

And bourbon.  Not kidding about this at all: I road tested the theory several years ago and they’re beautiful together.

But that doesn’t mean Twizzlers are solely second class citizens.  The texture of them-that plastic-like artificiality, is their strength.  They’re fun to eat!  Plus, they’re tasty.  So keeping that in mind, I present to you Switzer’s Twists, in green apple & watermelon flavors.

For whatever reason, I’m just drawn to candies like these. I think at the end of the day, it’s because they’re made with real fruit juice. Just kidding, it’s because they’re painfully shiny and beautiful.

And let me tell ya, taste-wise they don’t disappoint either. Both flavors have a brightness and slight tart edge to make them interesting.  Honestly, …these actually might be something I reach for before The Twiz or Red Vines on occasion, just for the fun variety of flavors.

I can tell you for sure that I’m definitely buying them again. Most likely for 1$. So…20 bags of Switzer’s next time.

UPDATE: FINALLY, these are available on the web. Check it:

Oh, and thanks Mrs. Guru!

Funny you should say that-I saw them at my local dollar tree a few weeks ago and thought they’d likely be bad. I’ll head back and pick some up, thanks for the tip!

Now I know this post is rather old, but have you tried the salted caramel twists by Switzer’s? They are to die for. Found them at the dollar tree once, however it seems they’ve stopped carrying them. Or, at least they have here in VA. Now, they seem to be hard to find.
