Mentos Sour

Mentos always have a nice rounded tartness to them, but a full on sour variety pack? 2014 IS A GREAT TIME TO BE ALIVE.

We have a long history of reviewing Mentos round these parts.  Some are good, some are great, and some are absolutely outstanding.  The key to this particular candy is the uber-chewy consistency.  If you like tough chewing candy, then it doesn’t get much better than Mentos.  Perusing the wares at World Market recently, I saw this and might have let out an audible gasp:

80’s style neon colored sour Mentos.  I’m in!  Check out the fruit selection:

Strawberry, Cherry, Green Apple & Lime.  Lime!

The reason I point out these flavors is because they’re different than the ones in the Amazon.com available “Sour Mentos”, which are made in Thailand.  Those sport watermelon, green apple & lemon.  But wait, there’s ANOTHER variety of “sour mix” Mentos made presumably in Thailand as well that has green apple, grape & pineapple.  Not a lot of logic going on around here, but suffice it to say that the tube I’m reviewing today is clearly different, and appears to be made in Germany.  I can’t vouch for the flavor or eating experience of the other varieties, but I’m very familiar with these now.

They’re delicious.

You’re looking at entire roll-14 pieces.  Apparently the Strawberry & Cherry are identically colored.

The first time I tried these, I got that familiar Mentos chew, and the nice fruit flavor, noticed the tang, and enjoyed it.  But I was left feeling  a bit “meh” on them.  Then I had a few more, and quickly realized that I judged too soon-they’re great.

The flavors pop-especially the lime and strawberry, but they’re all excellent.  It’s the chew though, mixed with the extremely nice full sour edge that shoots these over the top.

Good fruit flavor?  Check.

Good sour level? Check.

Good chew?  Nope-great chew.

It’s a win win on these.  They’re available at some World Markets, or you could try to buy them online.  I’ll get some of the Thai sour varieties and review those as well & see how they differ.  But if you do spot these out and about, and are a fan of Mentos at all-pick them up.

Of course these are everywhere but where I go shopping. I just wish there was some place where I could search for things and then buy them and have them sent to me. There’s a million dollar idea for you.
