Dorval Sour Power Straws : Pink Lemonade

I always have and always will love pink lemonade, despite the color being derived from Pepto Bismal

Pink Lemonade was accidentally “invented” in 1931 when a Florida scientist, Albert Pontoosie, mistakenly knocked a bottle of Pepto-Bismal into his pitcher of lemonade.  Now it’s a tradition!

No, that’s not how pink lemonade was started, but it doesn’t matter-pink lemonade is just lemonade with food coloring.  That doesn’t make it any less delicious though.  I love it.  One of my all time favorite candies WAS Jolly Rancher pink lemonade stix (no longer in production).  JR still make a pink lemonade lollipop, and it’s every bit delicious as I remember the Stix as being.  Clearly, there’s not enough pink lemonade flavored anything, so I say bring it on, sir.

When our friends at Dorval asked if we wanted to try these new sour straws in pink lemonade flavor, my only question was: how fast can they get here?

These appear on first look to be just like your average sour straw.  Not the same as the sour belts we reviewed a few years back by Dorval, but essentially the same thing in a different shape.  I was expecting to really like the flavor, and I was also expecting the standard stickiness that is associated with sour belts and straws.

In a first, …I was wrong.  Write that down, Mrs. Guru, it’s actually happened.  Tell Jr. I’m slipping, and update our living trust.

Dorval has finally perfected the sour straw, because these things are delicious.  Tart, sweet, lemony, …delicious!  They’re really tasty.  But the best part is the consistency: they’re not sticky at all.  Usually when you pick up a sour straw, you’re left with sugary crap on your hands.  Moreso, there’ a lot of toothstick going on, which a lot of people have a big problem with.  These seem to have some sort of anti-stick magical power to them.

Instead of a sticky chew, it’s a firm, spongy, dry chew.  I didn’t realize that this would be something I’d appreciate so much, but I do.  I think the biggest benefactor through, is Mrs. Guru, who finally doesn’t have to vacuum under my ass on the couch after I eat things like this, which always spews sugar crystals all over the place.  She thanks you, Dorval.  But I’m digging these solely on their taste, and will definitely buy them again when I’m feeling the sour strip urge.
Here’s the bottom line: these are better than any other sour strips or belts I’ve had, save for the delightful sour peach belts that I’ve seen a few times in bulk.  But it aint bad to be #2 overall, is it?  These are great-look for them in retail stores, but until then, click the link below to try some out, for an insanely cheap price.  Assuming you wanna eat a pound, which should be a given.

I just had these the other night and Jonny is right – they are good. Not sticky, easy to eat, good flavor. Way better than most other straw sour candies. Buy em.
